ChannelPorts, the only private customs clearance agent in the UK, is one of the latest companies to adopt the Icom LTE radio system. The company processes over 3,000 vehicles and consignments a month through their customs clearance facility in Folkestone, Kent. The company now use the LTE radio system to coordinate parking and customs clearance across the 200-space lorry park, spread over a one square mile area in three sections.
ChannelPorts chose the Icom LTE system because of the simplicity of the setup and the coverage it provided over previous digital two-way radio systems. A representative said,
‘The Icom LTE radios have performed well. The quality of the audio is very good.’
The company also liked the way the Icom IP501H was more direct than a mobile phone, where they could contact many people at the same. They also liked the benefit of the break-in feature, which allows their management team to talk over a conversation if there was something urgent to talk about.
